Trainer Mr. May

Mr. Thomas May is a master bricklayer and concrete builder and has the right to train apprentices.

Mr. May has been asked by his boss, Mr. Borgman to supervise Sven's and Peter´s training.

Sven and Peter are trainees in Mr. Borgman´s  construction company that deals with masonry construction, road construction and tiling work.

Mr. May has theoretically informed himself about the so-called work process-oriented teaching and learning method. He intends to train Sven and Peter according to this method.

Their first task will be to build a garden wall. Mr. May wants to use this opportunity to apply the principle of work process-oriented training.

Will you help him? Have a look at the drawing, please.

The garden wall

The garden wall

The wall borders a public road (Garden Lane). Sven and Peter are supposed to plan the entire manufacturing process, so:

  • Quantity of the required building material
  • Type of transport to the construction site
  • Setting up the construction site
  • Classification of work steps (measuring, wall gauges, arrangement of expansion joints, bonds, etc.)
  • Quality inspection
  • Handing over the wall
  • ...

The foundation is already built in. Some guidelines must be observed: the wall should be made of frost-proof ceramic bricks. The bricks have the so-called 2DF and 3DF formats.

How to get information

Getting information

An essential feature of work process-oriented learning is that information and instructions are not primarily provided by the trainer.

The trainees themselves should find out the relevant information from an information pool. The trainer rather has the role of a moderator.

Mr. May is wondering what information Sven and Peter need to complete the task.

Which information?

Which information should Mr. May offer to the both trainees?
