6. Assessing

6. Assessing

Assessment

Following the trainees' self-controlling, the trainer must also give his evaluation. The evaluations of the trainees and the trainer will be compared.

The trainer checks the workpiece in the presence of the trainees. He explains to them what they have done right or wrong and possibly also why their assessments and his assessments differ from one another.

Whole learning process

Whole learning process

The trainer's assessment first relates to the actual workpiece and the objectively measurable criteria.
However, the trainer should also assess whether the work process as a whole has been understood and internalised.

The next task for the trainees should therefore take up the contents of the last work process and supplement it with further leading aspects.

Advanced requirements

After the straight garden wall, this could mean concretely for masonry construction:

  • Masonry with corners
  • Masonry with crossings
  • Masonry with decorative bracings

Feel free to formulate further aspects for other trades as well.

Impulses

As a trainer you should notice the following impulses for he next steps:

  • Make sure that there is enough space available for creating the next workpiece
  • Have enough material ready
  • Explain the most important aspects for preparing the work on demand
  • Have trainees calculate the material requirements
  • Watch the trainees setting up, recording and measuring
  • Correct the trainees only in case of heavy mistakes. The trainees should learn from small mistakes and avoid them next time
  • Make sure you have a clean and tidy environment for the workpeaces. Also consider accident and health protection
  • Explain the assessment criteria to the trainees; take your time.
  • Have the trainees write a short report on brickwork production.
